Invitation Letter by Ouriel Reshef

Dear Partners,

Fourteen years ago, around 90 students from half-a-dozen schools in the Greater-Paris area gathered at ASP for a Saturday MUN. Now, fourteen years later, some 900 participants from 65 schools, 25 countries and 4 continents, are expected at UNESCO for the three-day conference of PAMUN14. Having grown ten-fold in ten years, having renewed its THIMUN affiliation, and having set up a partnership with UNESCO, PAMUN is proud to present you its Fifteenth conference. Our greatest reward is the fidelity of our partners: PAMUN’s rate of return is stunning, leaving every year only very few slots for new schools to join our big family. In the last five years, PAMUN had reached full capacity by mid-June, fully six months before the conference, almost unheard of in the MUN circuit! This success raises the expectations of the lucky participants, and imposes on us an ever increasing responsibility.

It is therefore with both pride and trepidation that we invite you to join us for the Paris Model UN Fifteenth conference, which will take place on November 21-23, 2015 (Saturday to Monday). We look forward to the new venues, the Palais de la Mutualité & the Bernardins, of which – I’m proud to say – we will not have to blush!

When watching the world and the paths taken in the last half century, one could no doubt have legitimate reasons to feel sad and dispirited. The world we leave to our children is certainly a far cry from the ideals our generation had in mind. However, every year, when we watch the delegates at PAMUN struggling with the complex and challenging issues facing them – with dignity and compassion, with youthful enthusiasm and unwavering commitment, we cannot also help but feel elated and reassured: the next generation will make a better job at coming closer to solving the issues facing the world. Model UN conferences often look to me like a laboratory in which the generosity, the commitment to genuine dialogue and compromise, and the heightened awareness of the pressing needs of our globalized world can be fully experienced and exercised by the delegates. PAMUN, as well as other Model UN conferences, can therefore be viewed as the incubators of our future.  As such, they entrust our hopes for a better world to the delegates, fully confident that our trust is in good hands.

This is our mission. Join PAMUN, and be part of an exhilarating and landmark experience!

Cordially,

Ouriel RESHEF
